Ever wonder where our recipes come from? Meet Chef Sara, one of the key forces behind Green Chef’s original dishes. Sara’s culinary journey began as a teenager. Having vegetarian aspirations in a meat-and-potatoes Midwest family meant learning how to cook for herself. Through studying culinary sciences in college, to working as a barista in coffee shops and putting together sandwiches in restaurants, Sara developed a simple mantra: “Know your food. Eat from the seed.” She lives her mantra by eating and cooking whole foods, avoiding processed foods, and considering ingredient origin as seriously as she does flavor.
Sara’s birthday is on February 22nd, and we’re celebrating with her all-time favorite food: cheesy potatoes. A midwest staple at holidays and potlucks, every family has their own take on this comforting casserole. And of course, no one does it better than Sara’s grandma, who tops hers with canned cream of mushroom soup and crushed corn flakes.
For her Green Chef take on Grandma’s cheesy potatoes, Sara gave the rich dish a few fresh touches: a housemade, Greek yogurt-based cream of mushroom, and a shredded fontina and parsley-corn flake topping.
Look out for this crunchy-creamy side on our menu for the week of February 22, served with cumin-spiced steak and arugula salad. And don’t forget to wish Chef Sara a happy birthday while you dig in!
