Our Green Chef boxes have been showing up on some pretty awesome doorsteps! If you’ve never seen @missfoodieproblems on Instagram, you’re in for a treat. The lovely Corey Marshall delights her many followers with eye-popping pics of meals and foodie events all over the Los Angeles area. When she’s not checking out the latest dining hotspot or sipping cocktails at Coachella, she’s whipping up our very own Green Chef dinners at home! We couldn’t resist having a chat with Corey about life as an Instagram star.
What sparked you to start up Miss Foodie Problems?
I started it a little over a year ago. I’ve always loved food, and I started seeing other people posting primarily food pics and thought why not me? I just decided that I wanted to stop bombarding people on my regular Instagram with food and made an all-food Instagram. Literally my only goal at that point was, hey, maybe I’ll get some free food.
You have quite a devoted following, what is it that resonates so strongly with your audience?
I started at the perfect time, when it was just beginning to get popular. Aside from that, posting consistent, really good content. But I think the thing that set me apart from everyone else is that I like to be real. Starting my Snapchat was really helpful with that. I interact with people there, and show them I have a personality. I’m not just food.
I remember the first time I decided I wanted to post a photo of myself on my Instagram. I was actually afraid. But I’m glad that I did, because that was the starting point where I was more than just a food Instagram. I was an actual person.
What is your average day like?
I do social media at an ad agency. So that’s my day job. Then after work I will usually have a dinner or event planned that I’ll go to and do the whole Miss Foodie Problems thing. I try to make it to the gym before I go to work, but that doesn’t always happen. And then on the weekends I usually…sometimes I nanny, which is what I’ll be doing this weekend, and then I go to events afterwards. I have a really jam-packed weekend this weekend. It’s busy. But it’s good busy.
How does Green Chef fit into that lifestyle?
My mom actually found you guys. I’m pretty sure she saw you on Facebook. We loved it. So we kept ordering it. I mean, I’ve tried a lot of different subscription boxes, and you guys are definitely hands-down my favorite. And I’m not just saying that. The meals are very inventive, and everything is always good. I don’t think we’ve had one that we didn’t like. That’s a good sign.
I love to cook, but I’m not like someone who can come up with a recipe and figure it out for myself. When I get home from work, I don’t want to go to the grocery store. I don’t want to have to look up a recipe and then go pick up the ingredients. You guys have it all done for me. It’s nice that you guys have taken that out of my hands. And it’s not boring stuff. It’s still fun. It’s good for someone with a busy schedule but still loves gourmet meals.
How has being an Instagram persona changed your life?
I’ve got the job that I have now out of it. I started out as an influencer, and then it developed into this day job. So that’s very different. And I see a whole new side of the food industry. I had no idea that all of these events existed that I get to go to now.
I’ve met some of my best friends through the Instagram. I mean literally my whole life has changed. It’s not even one thing. Everything is different, in the best way possible. It’s cool. It’s crazy.
It’s awesome that following your passion led to such a big life change.
That’s honestly what I want to show to my followers and the people who enjoy what I do. I want them to think that it’s possible for them too. Any time that someone messages me and tells me that I inspire them…that is literally why I do this. Besides me enjoying it, I like to be inspiring and show people that literally you can do whatever you want. It’s your life. Just try it. If you fail or if something doesn’t work out, there’s always the next step. Nothing is final.
